Chief’s Welcome
On behalf of the men and women of the Waunakee Police Department, welcome to our website. Here are some facts regarding the community and the department:

The Community
Waunakee is located in Northern Dane County. The village covers just over 6 square miles. We are bordered by the Towns of Westport, Vienna, and Springfield. Less than three miles from our Southern boundary is the City of Madison and the City of Middleton. We have a 2012 population of approximately 12,400 residents. This is an increase of over 100% from just twenty years earlier. Waunakee is known for its great schools, low crime rates, excellent sports teams, friendly people, and proximity to Madison.

The Police Department
We have a total of twenty full time employees which includes 18 police officers and two office staff. We have 1 chief, 1 lieutenant, 4 sergeants, 1 detective, 1 school resource officer, and 10 patrol officers. We provide 24 hour police services. Our office hours are generally Monday through Friday 7:00 AM - 6:00 PM. However, this does vary depending on time off taken by Office staff.

Spending on Police Services
According to 2010 figures provided by the Wisconsin Taxpayer’s Alliance, The Waunakee Police Department’s spending on police services was $148.65 per capita. The average for similar municipalities on police was $215. Waunakee’s overall spending was 45% lower than the average.
